Tonya Lanz, Oakville, IA received the 2010 Community Caring Award at the Community Foundation’s annual celebration held Saturday, October 16 at the Morning Sun Community Center.

Other nominees included: Jodi Boysen of Wapello, Joan Delzell Bausch of Morning Sun, Benita Grooms, Mayor of Oakville, Sue Johnson of Wapello, Debbie Masson of Oakville, Hal and Polly Prior of Columbus Junction, and Dale Whitaker of Oakville. The Community Foundation Celebration is the kick-off of the 2011 Granting season and time to recognize individuals who help make their community a better place to live. Lanz was awarded a stone plaque created by Chris Weyrick of Wapello and a $100 check to a non-profit of her choice. Following are the profiles of the individuals nominated for this year’s award. Board Chairman, Ken Purdy, welcomed the guests and Valerie Unkrich, the evening’s guest speaker, got everyone on their feet for some fun mixers. Valerie is an associate professor of Physical Education and Exercise Science at Iowa Wesleyan College.
