The Community Foundation of Louisa County, presented Benita Grooms, Mayor of Oakville, and Bob Schlutz, representing the Louisa County Fair Board, with flood recovery grants at their annual celebration on October 1, 2011. Mayor Grooms accepted on behalf of the Oakville Volunteer Association a grant for $147,820 for the rehabilitation of homes in Oakville. The Louisa County Fair Board received a $50,000 grant toward construction of a building to replace a exhibition hall and bathrooms damaged by the flood. The grant money represented the remaining funds received in 2008 from people and businesses throughout Iowa who donated to the Embrace Iowa Fund for Flood Recovery. $979,531 in funds was designated for flood relief and recovery for Louisa County. The funds helped rebuild homes and help families and organizations hurt by the flood. A majority of these funds had been distributed to families through the Louisa-Muscatine Disaster Recovery Committee.
